What Are The Different Types Of Cosmetic Dentistry?

At Coburg Dental group we can improve your smile in a variety of ways depending on your particular requirements.

The Dental Board of Australia does not like us using the term “cosmetic dentistry”. It doesn’t make sense to us, but we all know what we are thinking when we use the term cosmetic dentistry so we call it “smile enhancement”. Similarly, we can’t call ourselves “cosmetic dentists”, even though we improve patients’ smiles every day.

So if you’re looking for “cosmetic dentistry Melbourne”, here’s a brief description of some of the more common services which we provide:-

    Tooth Whitening
If your only concern is the colour of your teeth, then tooth whitening or tooth bleaching may be the right treatment for you. There are basically two whitening treatment options.

We can offer a take-home treatment whereby small and thin mouthguards are made to fit over your teeth. A whitening gel is squirted into the mouthguard which is then worn for 30-60 minutes for an average of 2-4 weeks to gradually whiten your teeth.

The second option is to have professional tooth whitening performed in one 2 hour session in the dental chair. The gums are protected with a special plastic covering so that the strongest whitening gel can be applied without irritating the gum. Unlike the take home option, the in-chair whitening system gives us instantaneous results.

    Veneers
Concerns about the shape, spaces between teeth and small areas of crowding of teeth, with or without colour issues, can be treated with veneers. This procedure, which is as permanent as any dental procedure, involves covering the enamel of your front teeth with a plastic or glass ceramic filling material or a thin layer of specially made ceramic covers, that are stuck to the outer surface of the teeth.

    Orthodontics
If you have concerns about the position of your teeth, spaces between your teeth, crowding of teeth or the way your teeth bite together, orthodontic treatment may be the right treatment for you. Orthodontic treatment can be combined with tooth whitening or veneers to give you the best results for your smile enhancement.

Traditional metal braces, tooth-coloured braces, or clear aligners such as Invisalign®, are treatments provided at Coburg Dental Group by our dentist Dr Matthew Siebel.
